The aim of the Student Council is to provide a place for the discussion by students’ representatives of issues raised by students and which affect the life of the school. The Student Council make decisions and allows views to be expressed and heard and gives a further opportunity for effective communication within the school and for appropriate action to be taken, when necessary. Each class follows a full election procedure and elects a member of their class to represent them in Term 1. They stand for a whole year
Meetings of the Student Council are attended by the link teacher and an appropriate level of support; staff who have been trained to support in specific Student Council meetings.
The Principal and the Senior Management team attend one meeting during each term. Other members of staff may be invited to attend individual meetings to assist with discussion of specific agenda items.
The student council have been involved in writing policies, deciding on uniform and dress code, and school menus. They are a vital part of all interviews for new appointments. They help with fundraising and more importantly decide what to spend the money donated to the school. For example the newly designed playground area, where the students worked with the designers to make this a wheelchair accessible projects.
