Valence School offers an excellent range of career and job opportunities in a multidisciplinary setting covering teaching, social care, health care therapies and nursing, administrative, catering, maintenance and domestic service posts.

Teaching jobs do not require any special training or previous work in special schools.  We appoint people who are excellent teachers either having worked in primary or secondary schools. For subject based posts an outstanding knowledge and skill base in the subject is essential and all teachers need to be able to deliver excellent lessons in which students make at least good progress.   Classes are small and all are well supported by trained Special Support Assistants and where necessary Higher Level Teaching Assistants.

Social care posts cover a range including senior and middle management jobs which require post holders to have excellent people management skills.  Keyworking forms the core of the work and involves coordinating students’ individual programmes, liaising with parents and monitoring their progress and development.  The School employs a large number of Student Support Assistants who work both within classrooms supporting learning as well as in the residential setting.  Varied shifts and working patterns are available.  There are also Waking Night Staff who provide direct care of students overnight.

Health Care posts are provide by the West Community Health, an NHS provider and staff are based at the School term-time only.  Health care posts cover a number of individual professions including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy and paediatric nursing.  There is close teamwork with social care staff.

Administrative posts include office based roles and posts related to managing students’ information and data,  human resources, finance and heath and safety functions.  There are a range of management and other posts.  Catering posts include chef management, cook and kitchen assistant roles.  Maintenance roles include skill based jobs as well as posts that involve driving minibuses.  The school also carries out its own landscaping and grounds maintenance.  Domestic service jobs involve providing the school with a comprehensive cleaning and laundry provision.

Jobs are advertised in appropriate professional journals, in local papers and on web-based sites including this site.  All posts at the school have attractive benefits including final salary pension schemes, good holidays and training and development opportunities.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare and safety of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment.

Any offer of employment will be subject to a Criminal Records Bureau Enhanced Disclosure and full background checks, including any checks of a person's employment history that is felt necessary.
