Communication Curriculum Access

A range of software is used at Valence to enhance and benefit student’s ICT access and to assist with the independent recording of curriculum subjects.

		Software can be adapted and enhanced to address student’s individual needs. This is carried out by members of the CCA team.
We use a range of equipment to provide access to I T. Students who need to use a switch for access are assessed by the multidisciplinary team at Valence and this department oversees the implementation and maintenance of this.
		Students use a variety of methods to address their AAC needs. These may include paper resources, communication passports and communication books, a whole range of voice output communication devices, which run a cross section of vocabulary software.
Environmental controls are available in the school (lifts) and also in the home living area .This enables students to take control of their lives and benefit from controlling electronic equipment as well as doors, curtains, windows etc.

Valence encompasses a varied delivery within context of the curriculum including: - City and Guilds elements of Effective Augmentative Communication within Literacy planning and supporting Communication through AAC (SCOPE/CAP publication).
