As a Sports College Valence is committed to the health and well-being of students and strives to integrate all aspects of a student’s life within an inclusive curriculum provision. Pupils are taught in Primary Classroom settings during Key Stages One and Two and follow a Secondary model from Key Stage Three onwards. In Key Stages One and Two students are grouped by year, with flexible groupings for Literacy, Numeracy and PE/Swimming. In Key Stage 3 students are grouped into 3 classes based upon rates of progress and in Key Stage Four upwards students are grouped based upon core subject accreditation and re-grouped for option subjects. We strive to ensure the best match for students and refine the curriculum offer through the Annual Review process. Learning is supported by Special Support Assistants (SSAs) who work with students in the classrooms and who develop a range of specialist skills to support students with disabilities. The school also uses Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTAs) to teach in a range of areas working alongside subject teachers. Teaching staff at Valence come from mainstream backgrounds and have developed innovative and creative approaches to enable students to access the National Curriculum and a wide range of qualifications. The school has invested heavily in ICT approaches as these enable students to achieve as independently as possible, as well as providing tools for teaching. |

The Curriculum at Valence is designed to meet the needs and aspirations of individual pupils and includes a commitment to developing students’ communication and mobility.
