SUPPORTER FOR DEAFBLIND CHILDREN IN THE HOME AND COMMUNITY
PART TIME - 15 or 25 HOURS PER WEEK - PERMANENT
ALL YEAR ROUND (including school holidays)
£15.25 per hour - to start 1 September 2021
Delivering services in Maidstone/Swale, Sevenoaks/Dartford or Ashford/Dover
This is an opportunity for practitioners experienced in working with children and young people with sensory impairment, or those with experience in a different area of SEND provision who are willing to undertake a training role, to work as intervenors with deafblind children from birth to 19 years of age.
You will provide short break opportunities for families of children and young people with deafblindness. The focus of the role is to enhance opportunities in the home and in the community for deafblind children and young people to develop independence and to gain support with their individual communication modes. During the COVID-19 pandemic the provision of support in homes would not restart until it is safe.
You will support deafblind children and young people to participate in learning opportunities and community activities outside of the regular school hours. The work will be delivered flexibly to meet the needs of children, young people and their families. A large proportion of the work will be delivered in the late afternoon/early evening alongside three MSI Family Fun Days a year taking place on Saturdays or Sundays.
The ability to travel independently to meet the requirements of the service is essential.
This role will be offered as one post of 25 hours or two posts of 15 hours each. For those with some experience of supporting learners with SEND this will include training and the post will be offered at £13.75 per hour during the training period.
