About Us
At Valence School, we are proud to provide exceptional education, care and support for children and young people aged 4 to 19 with a physical disability and/or complex medical need. As one of the few maintained special schools of its kind in southern England, we offer a unique combination of specialist education, healthcare, therapy and residential provision within a highly supportive learning environment.
Based on our extensive site in Westerham, Kent, we provide both day and residential placements, supported by a dedicated multidisciplinary team of over 200 staff, including teachers, therapists, nurses, care staff and support professionals. Working together, our aim is to ensure that every student receives the personalised support they need to thrive academically, socially and emotionally.
Our vision is centred on helping every young person achieve meaningful independence. Through ambitious teaching, specialist intervention and high expectations, students develop the communication, mobility, social and life skills they need to prepare for adulthood and participate fully in their communities. We celebrate achievement in all its forms and support students to gain recognised qualifications and accreditations that reflect their individual aspirations and abilities.
Everything we do is underpinned by our core values of Respect, Resilience, Independence, Passion and Positivity. These values shape our culture, guide our decision-making and help create a community in which every student is valued, challenged and empowered to succeed.
Valence works closely with families, local authorities, health partners and external professionals to provide a holistic approach to support. We recognise that the best outcomes are achieved when education, health and care services work together, with the child or young person at the centre of every decision.
We are proud members of the Kent Special Educational Needs Trust (KSENT), the collective voice of Kent's maintained special schools. KSENT brings together 26 special schools across Kent, representing all areas of special educational need. Through collaboration, research, professional development and school-to-school support, KSENT works to improve outcomes and strengthen specialist provision for children and young people with SEND across the county.
At Valence, students are at the heart of everything we do. Our relentless focus on aspiration, achievement and independence ensures that every young person is supported to reach their full potential and prepare confidently for the future.
We encourage you to explore our website and learn more about our vibrant school community, but the best way to experience Valence is to visit us in person. We would be delighted to welcome you and show you the difference that specialist education, care and support can make.
